Anna Paquin

Anna Paquin was born in the city of Winnipeg, but was raised in Wellington. She made her acting debut as Flora McGrath, her character in the romance film The Piano. Following a prompt to auditions open at the age of nine and having no previous experience in acting, she won Flora McGrath's role. Flora was the daughter of an Scottish pianist, who was deaf. The couple were relocated to New Zealand during the middle of the nineteenth century to plan a wedding. As a teenager she emigrated from New Zealand to United States. Paquin played Jane Eyre's title character as a teen in Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre (2000) and her main character for the character in Fly Away Home (2000). Paquin was in the role of Frankie Addams, a character from Carson McCullers' novel The Member of the Wedding in 1997. In Steven Spielberg's Amistad in 1997, she played the Spanish queen in a lesser character. She played teenagers as part of Hurlyburly (1998), She's All That (2000), A Walk on the Moon (2000) as well as the character of the polexia Aphrodisa character as part of Almost Famous (2000).
